"Ebay Auction Arbitrage" by Jason James

Arbitrage is the act of purchasing a product in one market for immediate resale in another. Arbitrage can only occur when there is a disparity in prices between one market and another.

If you want to make money on ebay right now and don't have a significant amount of start-up funds, arbitrage may be your best option--at least to raise the money to purchase inventory for your ebay home business.

You can start buy scouting out other auction sites to see if there is a significant disparity in prices between those sources and ebay.

I personally suggest you start with sites like bidz.com, bid4assets.com, and www.firstgov.gov/shopping/shopping.shtml. If you can't find good prices there for the products you want to sell on ebay, you can search Google for "government auctions" and "auction sites."

You should be able to find a number of online auction sites that are significantly less-trafficked than ebay, have significantly lower fees than ebay, and subsequently have significantly less buyers than ebay.

You should then exploit this market loophole--the disparity in prices--between ebay and this market by purchasing products from your selected online auction site at low prices. You should first check prices on ebay to find out what similar items are selling for. If you can purchase at a significant discount on your selected online auction site, you should do so.

You can immediately turn around and sell these products on ebay for higher prices. You should stress the discounted prices in your auctions and pack them with highly- trafficked keywords, so that it shows up for a number of different keyword and keyphrase searches.

Some people even use this arbitrage technique exclusively with ebay auctions. They buy an item on ebay and then resell it on ebay, using one market within ebay to buy and then two or more to sell.

You can use this technique, too. Search for items up for auction on ebay in popular categories, but with poorly organized templates and bad selling strategies. Purchase these items and resell them with professional templates, better descriptions, and titles that are filled with keywords that pull visitors from multiple ebay markets.

Using this simple strategy and your skills as a professional ebay seller, you can purchase items and immediately turn them around for 200% profit. Determining what sells best on eBay may take some trial and error if you are not already stocked with merchandise or if you are unable to create your own product. What sells best on eBay for one person may not be what sells best on eBay for another.

So how can you use trial and error to discover great eBay products and/or services to auction off on eBay? Below are 3 tips of places where you can find merchandise, place it online, and then test your sales to determine what sells best on eBay for you.

1. Find items to sell at large wholesale discount stores like Costco. Places like this typically have a huge inventory of cheap items sold in bulk that you can resell on eBay. They offer such good deals on all kinds of merchandise like toys, grills, DVDs, etc. You will have unlimited new products to choose from with wholesale outlets like this in order to determine what sells best on eBay.

2. Dollar stores are probably the best way to buy cheap items and resell with little risk of loosing money when you test to find out what sells best on eBay. The quality of products sold in dollar stores range from very poor quality on up to 'diamonds in the rough'. I have seen the same products that I have purchased in a dollar store sold on eBay or at a swap meet for 10 times the original cost, not a bad profit!

Buying items by the pallet to resell to the ebay marketplace" by Jason James

Some product suppliers will purchase salvaged merchandise that is in such large quantities that they resell the items to you by the pallet that you can take and flood the ebay marketplace with. This type of transaction is often made by a 'liquidator' and you can go online to fine one nearest you.

This may not be the most secure way to find quality products to resell to the ebay marketplace but if you are willing to take the risk then it just may be worth it. Often times you are rolling the dice when buying a pallet full of stuff because there is no guarantee of what quality is inside.

While you may loose money by selling some of those items to the ebay marketplace, you might also make that money back with other products from your pallets. The key is to make sure that the majority of stock from the liquidator has what you want to sell to the ebay marketplace. This can only be done by working with one supplier for a few rounds and properly checking them out.

Here are a few tips of things to check out when looking for a liquidator:

1. Find out if they are selling to mostly flea markets. If this is the case then you may not want to buy these pallets because the quality may not exist. The ebay marketplace is looking for both quantity and quality.

2. Find out how long the liquidator has been in business. Find out exactly where he gets his products from. If the company does not want to reveal its sources then you may not want to purchase these pallets for resell to the ebay marketplace.

3. Last but not least, check for references. This is an obvious step in deciding to work with most anybody but a lot of people ignore it.

Starting up your own Ebay business is not difficult but making it into a successful venture that can help you save towards retirement and achieve your other financial goals can be a bit more challenging. Most people enter into the Ebay business universe by selling off some of the things they already have. "eBay Drop Shipping is the Future" by Jason James

We all pretty much know that Ebay is this Internet phenomenon that is making billions of dollars by hosting online auctions. Basically, people post things they want to sell and buyers browse the site for the things they want to purchase. Eventually, buyers and sellers meet up and the bidding process begins. But, the Ebay business website is also a place where drop shippers come to unload their wares as well.

Drop Shipping Basics

The term has started to catch on in the mainstream but there are still a lot of people out there that don't know exactly what drop shipping actually is. Basically, drop shipping is sales. Let's say that company A sells product X. Now company A does not sell directly to the public but you can buy their products at stores around the country.

But stores, like the Ebay business machine, operate to make a profit. Therefore, they must charge more than they paid for the product in order to make their profit. So, they either buy the product X directly from the manufacturer or from a distributor at wholesale price and then turn around and sell the product at retail price. The difference between those two prices is their profit.

In drop shipping, you become the retailer. The interesting thing about drop shipping is you do not need a store or even an inventory to sell your products. With the help of the Ebay business machine, you actually don't even need a website either.

Drop Shipping Mechanics

So how exactly does drop shipping work? First of all, you find a wholesaler that is selling products you are interested in reselling to the public. After setting up an account with them, they send you product descriptions of all their products or at least those you are interested in selling. If you do not have a website, you can post these product descriptions on the Ebay business website.

When a customer decides to buy one of your great products, they place an order and send their payment (including shipping costs) to you via credit card. You pass this order along to the wholesaler along with your payment.

The great thing about being a drop shipper is that this is where your involvement ends! The wholesaler then processes the order and then ships the product directly to your customer-but with your company name on the packaging! The customer never knows that they are actually receiving the product from a wholesaler and you are pocketing the difference between the wholesale and retail price! Could it possibly be any simpler?

By using Ebay to advertise your products and benefiting from their incredible traffic flow, you are really reaping the whirlwind at almost no cost and with very little effort. And since retail price is roughly double that of wholesale, just imagine the profits you can make drop shipping! "5 Secrets To Make A Killing on eBay" by Jason James

Secret #1: Find a "real" wholesale and drop ship company

Do you know what one of the biggest problem is to be successful on eBay? "What should I sell?" I can tell you, I get many emails per day from eBay sellers, asking me what they can sell. Let me explain this more in detail.

Let's take John and David for example. Both are sellers and try to make money on eBay. Let's start with John. He mainly gets his items from garage sales. So, every Saturday morning he gets up very early, hops into his car and drives around the neighbourhood to check out the garage sales. So he went last Saturday. John did not buy anything on the first two garage sales, but on his third garage sale, he found a little treasure. An old book from 1897 - for a bargain price of $10. Bingo! John was proud! "I can sell this for huge profit', he thought and he went home. He took his digital camera and he made a high quality digital photo. It took quite some time but finally he was happy with the result. Then he had to upload this picture to his computer and he spent some time writing the sales copy. Late Saturday afternoon finally he was finished and launched this book onto eBay. 7-10 days later his item got sold for $75!! John is excited. He packs the item, labels it with the buyers address and then he drives to the nearest post office. Oh no, what a long line. After 15 min of waiting he could finally post this item to his customer! Wow, a lot of work for $65 profit? Don't you think?

Let's look at David. He usually gets up very late - usually at Saturday around lunchtime. He is still in his pyjamas and he makes himself a nice cup of coffee and gets onto the Internet. He logs into his drop ship account and browses through some hot selling product. "Yes, I can sell that" - A nice laptop for a bargain price of $550 (wholesale price). But David does not have to pay upfront for this item, so he just downloads the professional digital photos offered by his drop ship company to his computer. "Oh wait"; David has just discovered that this drop ship company has also a "ready-to-use" auction sales letter available. That's really cool ...and David copies and pastes the source code of this letter into his eBay listing and he launches his auction. A Dutch auction, since the drop ship company announced that they have more than one of this laptop currently available. Great, David could sell 6 laptops. He hits the submit button for this Dutch auction of 6 laptops and enjoys his coffee (which is still hot by the way). After 7-10 days David has sold all 6 laptops for $830 each. All what David does is the following: He waits until he gets the payment from his 6 customers in his paypal account, sends the address of the customers together with 6 x $550 (wholesale price) to his drop sip company via paypal. He has made pure profit of 6 x $280 = $1,680 in about 25 min of work - total. That's why David is a smarter eBay seller than John. I think the idea is clear ...drop shipping can be the answer to your problem what to sell on eBay and it can saves you a lot of time too. No packing, posting etc.

Secret #2: Have a professional auction listing

A professional eBay auction site is like your business card. If you are serious selling on eBay you should show your potential customers that you are a professional seller and that you are selling high quality products. Please, don't just upload a photo and type the text in the description box. Do your homework and learn some HTML. Look around there are many professional tutorials and ebooks around helping you in that matter. It's definitely worth it. And you'll be surprised, because if your auction listing looks nice and professional potential buyers stay longer on your site and usually it's more likely that they place a bid.

Secret #3: The money is in the follow up

"Yes, I've heard this before", you may say. But, this is a very important aspect of your successful eBay career: Follow up with your customers. Send them an email ~10 days after they have purchased the product and ask them how they are going with the product and if everything is all right. Invite them to have a look at your other auctions. (You have to be careful though not offending anyone, but if the products are related and you ask how they went with the product, that's fine). I never got complaints by doing that and your customers are happy to get some "insider tips". You'll be amazed how many customers will buy from you again, since they value you as a seller. Keep in mind that it is easier to keep an existing customer, instead of getting a new customer. You could also send them a thank you gift in form of a downloadable digital information product. That's easy for you and they get some valuable information. You'll see that your existing customers will be very thankful and they feel good that they have bought from you and will do again in the future.

Secret #4: Sell internationally

This aspect is often neglected by many eBay sellers: Sell internationally! First, check with your drop ship company in which countries they are shipping and how much postage they charge to send the item overseas. If you have sort out these details, you can go ahead and list your item internationally. You'll be surprised how many more items you are selling when the potential buyers see: Ship worldwide. Don't miss this opportunity or you are leaving big bucks on the table.

Secret #5: Be creative - Be different

How do you think your listing will be stand out from the crowd? Good question isn't it. In my 4 years of being an active Power Seller, I have tried and tested a lot. First have the photo in the gallery; it just costs a bit more to list but these additional cents are well spend. A recent study has shown that people almost ignore listing without a picture in the gallery. So that's mandatory! The next step is your title. Do you know that only the title is spidered by eBay when potential customers are searching for specific products? So, you have to make sure that your title includes as much keywords as possible. But be careful here, eBay does not like "keyword stuffing". So, be creative and come up with 2-3 different titles for the same item. Try them all and you'll see what works best.

"5 Ways To Drive Traffic Away From Your eBay Auction" by Jason James

eBay is a one-stop solution to any one who wants to make money online. Whether you just selling a few unwanted items from around your house or your want to develop a work from home business, eBay removes many of the obstacles for you. Not many other websites can help you drive targeted traffic towards your sales, process the order on your behalf and accept payment though paypal. All you need to do then is dispatch the item to your winning bidder.

And let's not forget the biggest advantage over selling on eBay. The majority of users have money in their hand just waiting to find the right item.

So if eBays so great why would you want to drive traffic AWAY from your auctions?

Well there are a few reasons why you'd be better off selling from your own website, rather than though eBay. Firstly & most importantly, think of all the listing fees & final value fees you could save if everything you sold on eBay you could sell on your own website. Personally it would save me thousands of dollars per year alone in listing fees.

Secondly, you'll be protecting yourself from eBay policy change. Imagine you were selling thousands of ebooks weekly and then suddenly eBay policy changed to prevent any ebook listings.

Overnight your business would simply disappear & your income would vanish. It's the same with listing fees - A sudden hike in fees could wipe out your business & profit overnight.

With any business, especially an online one you need to safeguard yourself against measures that are out of your control. So by driving traffic away from your auctions to your own website you'll slowly start building up an alternative source of revenue. The following methods can be used on eBay. Some are on the borderline of eBay policy & you should check out any policy violation before using them. Saying that, a huge proportion of sellers use these on a daily basis.

1) Image Hosting

All the best sellers have auction templates developed to maintain a professional listing. And of course those sellers ALWAYS use images or graphics to accurately show the condition of the items their offering.

eBay itself allows you to upload the images to their servers, other commercial & free services are available. However really you want to store any images on your own server. Not only will search engine robots follow the links from your listings to your site (helping in improved visibility in any search engines), but many browsers will show the address of where the images are loading from in the status bar - For instance "Loading Image From http://www.visitmyshop.com" or "Waiting For http://www.visitmyshop.com". This is a great way for your visitors to see to become familiar with your site.

2) Feedback

Many sellers include their own website in the feedback comments they use. Strictly it is against eBay policy but many Powersellers use comments like "Thanks for your custom from http://www.Visitmyshop.com" as standard. This is perhaps one of the widely violated policies on eBay. I've never known of anyone receive a warning for this policy, but use it with caution as you could be the first.

3) Email Address.

eBay allows your listings to contain one email link address, in addition to the "Ask The Seller A Question Link" they already provide. Use the opportunity to show the an email account associated with your domain name for example sales@visitmyshop.com. The only condition about showing your email address is the one shown must also be your registered email account with eBay. Before you list it, make sure they match up.

4) About Me Page

eBay actually allows you to link to your own website from your About Me page, as long as the actual page does not directly offer to sell items. Therefore make it an information or about us page that you link to, BUT one where visitors can easily navigate to your catalog of items for sale. Additionally drive traffic to your About Me Page by including a link on every listings, for example "Click here to learn about me". An average basic shop on eBay will get over 1500 item views within a month. If you can drive just a small proportion of these to your about me page & then to your site you'll certainly see a difference in your non-eBay sales.

5) User Id

While eBay does not allow your user id to be that of an website, you should have it as closely to resembling your site name as possible. You CAN NOT attach .com, -com or *com to the end of your user id - this is strictly against eBay policy. However nothing would stop your id being VisitMyShop. The idea is to get your eBay visitors comfortable with dealing with you away from eBay.

I hope these tips help you drive traffic away from your auctions towards your site & lessens eBays grip on your business. Remember, Ignorance is not an excuse eBay accept if you do violate their policy. While you initially get a warning for policy violation continuous offences may result in your account being suspended. Having said that, eBay mostly rely on policing from other users to enforce their policy so as long as no reports you should be in the clear.

Drop shipping has become the latest craze in business and is helping to drive the latest surge of new websites being created today. Drop shippers are creating multiple websites selling numerous product lines and making a fortune in the process. Just type any product you can think of into a search engine and just look at how many pages of websites come up-and most of them are drop shipping companies selling their wares!

Drop Shipping Benefits

The reason why drop shipping has become so popular and exploded so suddenly is that it is simply the most efficient way to sell retail goods. People surfing the web find a site selling a product they want and then make a purchase. The website owner (drop shipper) then passes that order along to their wholesaler along with payment and shipping costs.

From there, the wholesaler processes the order, packages the product with the website owner's business name on the packaging, and ships it directly to the customer. The website owner bought the product at wholesale price and then sold it to the customer for whatever price they thought they could charge, and profited from the difference. It really is pure genius!

But, there is more to this than you think and the beauty of drop shipping gets even better! First of all, there is virtually no overhead because there is no store to operate (or employees to pay!) or any inventory to maintain. Due to the incredible traffic on Ebay, it is definitely possible to make a fortune by drop shipping from the site. If you just think of the Ebay fee as a business expense, there really is no downside to the arrangement and it can definitely be more profitable than operating your own site and worrying about getting people to visit your site.

While some people may not like the idea of depending upon Ebay for their business, the fact remains that drop shippers can substantially benefit from the partnership. Due to the incredibly low operational costs of drop shipping, the Ebay fee is a very small price to pay for the convenience and high traffic offered by the site. "8 Imaging mistakes to avoid when uploading your Ebay auction photo" by Jason James

It is no secret that having professional looking photos that are upscale in quality will help create more Ebay auction sales and attract higher bid buyers. Each and every product that you sell on Ebay, even it you are promoting a service, should have a photo cropped and fit to please the eye.

As much of a positive impact that a decent photo has on your business, the exact opposite will come into effect if you display a distasteful photo of poor quality on your auction. Even if your product is sound and your service is top notch this still may never matter if your Ebay photo creates an illusion of poor quality in the buyers eyes.

In order create good Ebay product photos then be sure to stay clear from these common mistakes that are made my Ebay sellers when creating their digital photo for the auction:

1. Glare: Along the lines of poor lighting, glare is the result of improper flash usage. Try not to take your pictures head on when wanting beautiful photos for your Ebay auction. Try instead to shoot the product from an angle. Such angles are from the left, from the right, or even from the top of the project. Coming from an under angle also works for photos for your Ebay auctions.

2. Cropping: Have you seen those Ebay auction pictures that have the item in the middle of all of the background distractions? Now that is very annoying to those viewing your Ebay auction. You should crop everything that you take a photo for. Nobody wants to see your messy bedroom or the garage where you took the picture at and it may detour many from looking further into your Ebay auction. Keep all distractions out of your Ebay photo by cropping everything but the product. Trust me, your Ebay auction will thank you for it in sales.

3. Background: Having a fancy background like countertop designs or table garnishes only distract from your Ebay auction product. Sure this may seem like something pleasant to do but this mistake is very similar to not cropping properly in that it may make your Ebay auction customer loose focus on what you are selling.

4. Fuzzy images: If your Ebay auction images are fuzzy and blurry to view then all you are telling the customer is that you do not have any consideration for detail and quality. This lack of preparation with your Ebay photos will give the customer a perception that you may just treat your products and customer service with the same lack of attention. You have one chance with your Ebay auction so be sure to check the focus before you snap the photo and use a tripod if necessary to avoid blur.

5. Lighting quality: Do not deplete the value of your Ebay auction by having dim lighting for your product photo. On the other hand, too much lighting can also create a very bad picture in the customers mind as they are viewing your Ebay auction. You should take several snapshots of the product to view each photo for lighting problems. Then begin your cropping.

6. Close up shots: There are some Ebay auction items that are so small and need a closer look by the customer. Do you have these close up photos in your Ebay auction? I strongly suggest that you do not make the mistake of selling something like jewelry but not including up close photos. Your camera should have a zoom feature which can take very close shots of the item with total accuracy.

7. Avoid reflective surfaces: This mistake that happens to many Ebay auction photos falls into the categories of poor lighting and blurry images. Light issues can really make or break your Ebay sales if not attended to and reflective light can do the same damage. Be sure to remove any shiny objects from the background from the site where you are taking your Ebay Auction photo to avoid this distraction.

8. Confusing combo shots: Do not take pictures and post multiple items within the same block that your main item is for sale is located. This will create confusion from the buyer and will prevent your Ebay auction from making the sales that you want. Customers have one thing in mind and the only product that you should be posting is of a picture of the main single item.

"The Basics of How To Sell on Ebay" by Jason James

The star that is Ebay continues to rise with its ultimate height and potential reach still unknown. What is known is that over $14 billion dollars worth of merchandise changed hands last year with more expected this year. More and more people are joining in the Ebay craze in hopes of making huge profits working for themselves. Learning the basics of how to sell on Ebay is simple and just about anyone can profit from the miracle of online auctions.

Getting Started

With millions of visitors every month, the Ebay business machine continues to be an incredible opportunity for people to go into business for themselves and succeed with very little start up capital. Essentially, all anyone needs to start selling items using their own Ebay business are: a computer with Internet access, a digital camera, and…well, something to sell!

Learning how to sell on Ebay begins with familiarizing yourself with the site by actually getting your feet wet and selling something. To do this, you will first have to register with Ebay. You will need a credit card, a checking account, and a few minutes to do this.

Listing Your Wares

Most people begin their Ebay business slowly by first selling items around the house. Once you have scoured your home in search of antiques, collectibles, or even clothing that you are no longer interested in or just want to sell, you have to list your item because online auctions just would not be as interesting without something for people to bid on!

In order to do this, you will need a product description and a photo of the item(s) being sold. This description needs to be accurate while still casting your product in the best light possible. Misrepresenting your item can cut your Ebay business experience short because customer feedback is listed for all to see. One or two really scathing reviews, especially in the beginning, can kill your chances of selling things on Ebay auctions in the future.

You are also going to need a picture of your item because this will be the only way for a potential buyer to have an idea about what they are bidding on other than your description. Be sure to capture the true essence of the item with this picture because you will get negative feedback for sure if people think they were conned by some slickster with a digital camera taking pictures that do not really represent the item being sold.

Monitor Bidding

Obviously, learning how to sell on Ebay means mastering the bidding process itself. You will need to determine whether or not to set a minimum bid amount or even to opt for something like the "Buy Now" option which allows people to buy an item at a listed price without going through the bidding process.

Regardless of what option you choose when auction selling, you will have to be available for questions that customers have about your item. Respond to these as quickly as possible and try to provide the most useful information you can while still answering their questions.

Conclude Transaction

After the bidding has ended it is time to collect your money and ship the item to the customer. Be sure to have posted sales policies and payment options so that customers know what they are getting into when bidding on your items. People are naturally a little skeptical of online auctions anyway because they are bidding on something that they cannot see or touch. You do not want to surprise them with high shipping costs or complicated payment options.

You may want to include a little note or even a flyer about your business to help cultivate good will with the buyer. Remember, positive feedback is critical to the success of any Ebay business and yours will be no exception. Once you run of out things to sell from your own household, it is time to take your Ebay store to the next level by locating more items to sell so you can keep those profits rolling in!

"How Do Online Auctions Actually Work?" by Jason James

In the past few years, online auctions have really become a popular way for people around the world to buy and sell goods. Now I am not just talking about coins, figurines, or other collectibles. In fact, collectibles only ranked sixth in 2004 for all items sold on Ebay with a total value of $2.2 billion dollars worth of sales. But, perhaps surprising to some you just as it was to me, automobiles actually ranked first in sales on Ebay last year with over $11 billion generated through the online auctions hosted by the company.

Yes, the Ebay business machine just keeps growing every year and now you finally want to learn how to sell some of the things lying around your home to make some of that money that seems to be changing hands like gold through all the auction selling. Well my friend, it is about time because online auctions are a simple and convenient way to make real money from home and have fun in the process!

How Basic Online Auctions Operate

The Ebay business machine has grown and evolved over the years so that there are now several different methods to post and sell merchandise. The most basic ebay auctions operate very similarly to a real auction.

The seller first must register and then write a description of the product being sold. Although some copy writing is helpful, a little practice and some homework are all you need to have a basic idea of how to describe your product. Then, you set a price that you want the bidding to start at and designate a time limit as to how long you intend to allow people to bid on your posted merchandise. Then, when time runs out, you must sell your product to the highest bidder. Doesn't really seem that hard to make money on Ebay, does it?

Online Auctions with Reserve Price

There is certainly no one out here that wants their Ebay business venture to end in failure which is precisely why some people opt for the "Reserve Price" option. This "reserve price" is the minimum amount of money that you will take for whatever it is you are trying to sell via the online auctions.

No one can actually see the reserve price except for you so you still get the main benefit of online auctions which is to get people to bid against one another for your product while driving the price upwards. But, for ebay auctions having this reserve price set, the product will not go to the highest bidder unless they have a bid that is equal to or higher than your minimum price. This is a particularly good option for higher end or specialty products to protect you from low-ball bidding and losing a bunch of money.

Online Auctions Using "Buy It Now" Option

Now if you are impatient, need to sell something immediately, or are offering something that might sell better with a fixed price, you can choose the "buy it now" option when posting your merchandise. This allows buyers to purchase your product immediately for a fixed price without going through the trouble of monitoring the bids and waiting for the time limit to expire.

For those of you thinking that online auctions are a mere fad, guess again. With access to a global marketplace and more people than ever using the Internet to buy the things they want and need, online auctions are only going to increase in popularity in the coming years. Auction selling is the best and fairest way to get the best price for anything being sold. Plus, if you play your cards right and are savvy enough, you might just be able to quit that day job and start making money from home selling things you love to people that want your goods!
