"Part 20: I Am Going To Commit Suicide in Two Weeks and There Is Nothing You Can Say Or Do To Stop Me From Killing Myself!!!" by Ralph Zuranski

1-3-08 8:29 AM

Dear Vietnam Vet,

You are very welcome.

Thank you for not killing yourself.

Your choice for life is a true answer to my prayers. God is SO GOOD and does answer our prayers if we only pray with a humble, compassionate spirit for those in need of His mercy and grace.

I do understand. I have also been lost and alone in the darkness of deep depression. God saved me from killing myself when I was at the lowest point in my life, addicted to pot and occasionally using other drugs.

My depression was so deep, I also thought that by killing myself I would punish all the enemies in my life that had abused and persecuted me. It was the easy way out.

Dealing with the difficulties and problems in our lives is what makes us grow into better, more compassionate people. Few people realize that everyone deals with problems and difficulties because it is an important part of our transformational process.

Having the courage to not quit, is the one thing that separates the winners from the losers, the living from the dead, the saints from the sinners.

God is blessing you.

The drugs do make you feel worse and INSANE.

You are now on your way to achieving your ultimate success.

It usually happens after the deepest darkness of our lives.

3rd stage adrenal exhaustion is what most Vietnam Vets, like you, are suffering from. It makes you feel insane and suicidal.

You should watch Dr. Borkin's videos on youtube where he explains the terror and insanity caused by adrenal exhaustion and how to fix it. Here is the link to his educational videos:

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=1062C282F8A28C84

His hormone testing and custom hormone balancing cream
has done miracles for myself, wife and many of the patients
that I worked with at an alternative medicine clinic in Dallas.

Sabre Sciences, his lab, can do the hormone tests
and hook you up with a doctor at the lab to help you to
a level of health, happiness and productivity you never
imagined was possible. It has for ME.

God Bless YOU,
Ralph

PS Thanks for the book. It is very inspirational.

PPS If you want to continue with our conversation
I would love to continue to support you with prayer
and encouragement.

PPS There are so many depressed people in the
same boat as you. Our conversation over the last
couple of weeks would inspire so many people
to not kill themselves and see help. Would you
mind if I created a fictional name, with no reference
to you, so I could post our emails, without reference to
"person who is not a hero".

PPPS There are so many that would be helped by
what we have shared.

"Part 19: I Am Going To Commit Suicide in Two Weeks and There Is Nothing You Can Say Or Do To Stop Me From Killing Myself!!!" by Ralph Zuranski

1-3-08 7:32 AM friend response

Dear Ralph,

I believe you need to understand that my journal is the detached ramblings of someone lost and alone in the darkness of deep depression. I am feeling better now since I have stopped taking all those meds.

I was taking seven different medications some for the pain from the nerve damage in my back and some for the depression. I think that all together the medications were making me worse. I don't know where I got the energy to gather myself enough to say this can't be right but now I think I am going in the right direction again.

Maybe it was your prayers or maybe it was just your compassion. What ever it was.

Thanks for your willingness to stand at the edge of the darkness and call my name.

"Part 18: I Am Going To Commit Suicide in Two Weeks and There Is Nothing You Can Say Or Do To Stop Me From Killing Myself!!!" by Ralph Zuranski

1-3-08 7:11 AM friend response

Dear Ralph,

While I am not entirely sure I believe I have made a serious and possibly harmful error.

The "person who is not a hero" that is on your Heroes Website may not be the "person who is not a hero" that was with my wife. As I told you I had not seen him in over 25 years.

The "person who is not a hero" on your website has the same coloring and facial features also the same thinning hair. But when I did further digging the villain on your website does not appear to have the same history.

If I have caused any harm to anyone with my letter to you about "person who is not a hero" I want to apologize. I am truly sorry and if need be I will do whatever I can to try to repair any damage I may have caused.

Ralph, I hope you got the books I sent.

I wanted to let you know that I stopped taking all the meds they were giving me.The first week was very difficult both physically and emotionally but I am starting to feel much better. I can think much clearer and I am starting to see a little daylight again.

I don't think there are words to express how much your kind words meant to me in my darkness. It was as if I was trapped in a dark room that was filling with water and I could hear someone on the other side of the wall trying to tell me the way out.

Although their voice was distant and muffled, at least I knew someone was out there who cared enough to try to help a stranger. That someone was you my friend. Thank you.

If you don't mind I would like to send you a couple of attachments.

One is a file of the journal I was doing and the others are just pictures of some things I love.

One picture is my daughter and her daughter. The trees are in my yard the pictures I took yesterday.

Thank you again

Vietnam Vet

PS. I was reading the hero blog site. The first thing I read was by Alex Mandossian. He talked about leading from behind. I did not read all of the articles. But I was impressed by his lead from behind. There was another man in history who's name was Lao Tzu. He wrote in the ICHING. This is a rough translation. " A leader is best when people barely know he exists. Not so good when people fear or hate him. But it is good if when the job is done the people say " We did it ourselves".

"Part 17: I Am Going To Commit Suicide in Two Weeks and There Is Nothing You Can Say Or Do To Stop Me From Killing Myself!!!" by Ralph Zuranski

12-26-07 3:44 PM

Dear Vietnam Vet,

Thank you for what you shared of your life. I admire you
and would be sad at the loss of such a special person.
Please let me know what I can do to help keep you alive.

Going to see an expert is a great step. I am 58 and think we
are similar in age and have similar challenges. If you give me
your birthdate, time and city, I will print out a biorhythm and
natal astrological chart for you.

They really helped me get in touch with who I was born to be and the highs and lows
we all experience. I have been a biorhythm consultant for the San Diego Chargers and
Soccers in their winningest seasons.

The one major thing that helped my depression and
suicidal temptations was getting my hormones
balanced out. That was the major problem my entire
life. Once the were balanced out, my depression and
suicidal tendencies diminished.

Check out Dr. Michael Borkin's videos on youtube.com.
He is the brilliant doctor and my personal friend who turned
my entire life around by creating some customized hormone
cream to balance out my hormones. They are also adding
brain neurochemistry tests also that I can hardly wait to find
out my imbalances so I can get them balanced.

May God Bless you,
Ralph

Ralph

It is not just what rick did, or even just the things my wife has done. After all I am pretty sure Rick did not twist her arm. I hope I do not come off as being that naive in my old age. It is not just the war or that my old man beat us and made us kneel on marbles.

I seem to have made a lot of bad choices and the results are what they are. I have not tried to make up for my bad decisions by doing good deeds. I learned a very long time ago a man cannot do a deed for its reward or to try to negate a negative. One can only do right for the sake of right.

There is sometimes only the reward of knowing yourself to be better in your heart for it. I honestly believe a man should do good things under the cover of silence and dignity. Except for the purpose of teaching others a man deeds should not be made public.

The things I told you in confidence, I hope, were just the verbosity of a tired and lonely man trying to make sense of my darkness.

Ralph I am going to end our correspondence at this point.

I will tell That I have an appointment with a psychiatrist tomorrow to try one more time.

Thank you for kindness

Mike Filsaime: People become heroes by just living a good life. People look up to you when you do things right. That’s a simple answer for a complicated question. How to become a hero is simply just living the life that you know is right. Then people will look up to you.

Paulie Sabol: The first answer is a day at a time. You become a hero one day at a time. This is the other part of it. Do you know how you become a villain? One day at a time. You become a hero or a villain one day at a time.

So let me tell you what the difference is. If the path is the same, what’s the difference? For your case, we will brand the hero’s edge. The hero’s edge works this way.

Today there will be a challenge. You will respond to that challenge with the simple discipline of heroism or you will respond to it with the simple neglect of villainy.

I may have said this once before, but I want to be clear. When I am making this hard juxtaposition, of course there are shades of gray, but for the purpose of this, let’s just say the only thing that it takes for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing.

Our only choices are heroism or villainy. So today when that challenge comes, we are either going to respond as a hero, with heroism, or we are going to respond with neglect which is villainy. In doing that today, we won’t notice a big difference. It is sort of like if you had the choice today to read a book on a subject area that you’d like increase your strength in.

If you read it today, a chapter, you may not know a whole lot more, right? You may not notice the difference, but what happens if you read a chapter a day, a year from now? Now you’ve read maybe ten different 36 chapter books. That’s a huge amount of information. That’s going to make a huge difference.

What if you do that for the entirety of your junior high years? You do that for three years. You’ve now read 30 books. In many cases, that is as many authoritative books as there are on a subject. You are really an expert at that moment. It is the same way with heroism.

The act of making the decision to act like a hero right now – in the action of doing so will seem to make no difference at all, but the compound effect of making the simple decision of discipline to act like a hero rather than the simple act of neglect, villainy, over time will make all the difference in the world.

That is why the ability to move into your destiny as a hero is assured. That is why you can trust the truth. That is why it must happen. All it takes is the little act of discipline. It is not hard to do. Is it hard to read a chapter today? Is that extraneous and take hours and hours of time to read a chapter?

No, just a little bit of time. But the compound effect over time assures greatness. That is how you become a hero today.

Tom Beal:

Dear Vietnam Vet,

I am glad you are set. I admire your perseverance.

However, you have put me in a very difficult position.

I believe in the value of human live. I cannot just let you
kill yourself without doing something to help you make
the choice for life. What can I do to help you make the
correct choice?

If you kill yourself and I know about it, then I am guilty
of contributing to your murder. I do not want to have your
blood on my hands.

I think Rich has changed and I know he would be happy
to ask your forgiveness. I would be happy to contact him.

Take care,

Dear Ralph,

Thank you But I am no hero. I have seen Heroes in action.I am not among them. I could never except money or anything that cost anyone any piece of what they earned for their selves and families. I am not in need of anything. I have a house bigger than I really need.

I have more food than I can eat. I bought insurance when I had the resources to cover most of my medical bills. I know that if I really needed to I could go to any VA hospital. I tried that once many years ago and decided it is a last resort kind of place. I am still married to the Same women that went with Rick. I tried very hard to do what I thought was right by my children and I tried to do what I thought was right by my wife and forgive.

It was very unfortunate that she was not mature enough to realize what a gift I was trying to give her. She continued to be unfaithful for several years and I would just grit my teeth and hold on for the sake of my children.
I would not want to Slander Rick in case he has truly changed. Who knows! I haven't seen or heard of him in about 25 years.

I would just be too uncomfortable and feel too exposed. Thank you for your very generous offer but I respectfully decline. I have enjoyed our correspondence very much and I truly would like to keep it that simple for now.

Thank you again.

Craig Garber: Giving hope to others. You introduce hope into other peoples lives, and sometimes, you know where I grew up it was hard to be a hero.

You’ve got to attract those people to you, you can’t go and seek them out because, looking at marketing, you’re talking to an audience that’s not interested. The people who want hope, you’ve got to put that out there and let people come to you.

Rhea Perry: People are recognized as being heroes when they do something significant with their lives to help others. So often, heroes in ordinary situations serve others constantly, yet get no recognition for it. I’m convinced they’ll get their reward in Heaven. It’s just sad that they are so often taken for granted where they are in life.

Sharif Khan: To start, self knowledge is really important. On the Greek temple of Apollo there is an inscription that reads, “Know thyself, and you will know the gods and the universe!” Know your strengths and weaknesses, your deepest desires and your deepest fears, really being able to understand where you begin and where you end and beyond.

Self knowledge is so important because through self knowledge we learn what it is that we really want to do, what our calling in life is, what our blessings are.

By pursuing those blessings, by following our bliss, and doing what we love doing in service to others, we automatically become heroes.

Real heroes are men who fall and fail and are flawed, but win out in the end because they’ve stayed true to their ideals and beliefs and commitments.
- Kevin Costner

Debra Berg:
I believe people become heroes when their character qualities intersect with an unexpected opportunity to act or to make an important decision that will save or improve the lives of others.

12-26-07 7:37 AM my response

Dear Vietnam Vet,

You are a HERO for you service in Vietnam...no matter what the war protestors said and how they treated you and the other men and women who served.

You were doing your duty. Many gave their lives so that ungrateful, misguided, brainwashed individuals in this country could abuse and dishonor our veterans sacrifices.

I was against the way the war was waged after I found out how
our troops were prevented from winning the war in a short time because of the corrupt politicians, but I always admired and respected our service men and women who did their duty during a difficult time in our history.

Still there are many that hate our men and women in the service of this country. They are naive enough to believe that our
enemies will be nice to us if we are nice to them.

What a JOKE. If not for our heroes in the military, this would be the USSA, the United States Socialists America.

There are millions of people who want to help you, if you would just give them a chance. It seems my concern and prayers for you and your welfare is not enough to dissuade you from killing yourself.

Would you be open to staying alive and getting some help for your health problems if thousands of people wrote encouraging letters to you through my In Search Of Heroes Blog?

I would keep everything anonymous so no one knows who you are but have the opportunity to reach out and help you. There are many who would donate money, time and effort to help you through this difficult time. There are many organizations who would love to help you.

Please let a grateful nation help you. I will make sure you and the other VETS get the credit, respect, admiration and support they deserve.

With your permission, I will publish our series of emails in my blog and ask people to encourage and actually help you. Your name will not be included in any of the text. So you can keep your privacy intact. I will even go to the media to get publicity for you plight and that of over Vietnam Vets who are probably going through the same thing.

It is such a shame to lose a real HERO when the world needs them now more than ever. The most difficult day is one step short of your greatest success.

Take care,
Ralph

Kevin Hurley: Take what you believe in. Find out what your strengths are because is it really worth doing if you don’t believe in it? If you’re just after something about the money, that’s not going to happen. There are a lot of people that are even successful financially; I really don’t think they’re happy.

To me, money is just evidence that you’re good at what you do. So find your inner strength. Find out what you’re good at. Find out what you like and then make a difference in your community. Is it that bad to help people?

I really find it interesting physically speaking, that people that have less are across the board always going to give more to charity because they understand that there are other people that have even less than they do.

I feel that they’re everywhere. I’ve met so many of them. I keep a photo journal when I take pictures of what I make. My life consists of flying into a town and getting picked up by complete strangers. I’m only there for a day. So no matter how good it is or how bad it is, I’m there for about 24 hours.

I get to have a meal before we go to the theater and I do the show. I find that the majority of the time people were good and they’re completely touching. Everybody is a hero on a different level, but you’ve got to give back, especially if you are successful, especially if you have had a good life.

A good friend of mine, Rick Abrams is a really successful financial investor. He’s made millions and now he’s constantly raising money for rehabilitation programs and for really positive things in the community.
I say, “Rick, you could do anything you want. You could be in the Islands. You could be on vacation. Why are you doing this?”

He goes, “You know, I have a good life. If I don’t give back, I could get struck by lightening at any point.”
The honorary duty of a human being is to love.
- Maya Angelou

Nerissa Oden: Have confidence in your beliefs. Share them with others. I wouldn’t recommend trying to force them on others, but certainly sharing and opening discussion, even that for some people takes a lot of courage.

There are some people who are discouraged in their homes to talk back. It takes a lot of courage to even discuss your own personal viewpoints with other people.

Whether it’s physical violence in their family, a tragic accident that happened kind of left you emotionally scarred, a car accident or something, those people are heroes, too.

Our society doesn’t usually give them that label, but they are. They are people that I admire and wish well and enjoy being around. People who are able to overcome whatever their adversity is, I’m just kind of speechless.

I’m really glad to be able to have met them, read about them, known about them, and interacted with them.

David Hancock: I don’t think it’s something you can just do. I think it’s something you must be or try to be. You can be a hero by living right, stepping out and making a difference to those that need to be made. Again, whether it’s saving someone’s life physically or otherwise, it’s making a difference in someone’s life.

It’s getting out of your comfort zone to help somebody. That’s how you become a hero. I think if you step out, do something you know is right, and do things that others are afraid to do, inevitably I think you can become a hero.

Dear Ralph

I wish I could just say to "Well of course it all makes sense now." But it Doesn't seem to work that way. I have been to get professional help.

I have tried to pick my self up kick myself in the ass and keep moving. That worked when I was young but it kept getting more and more difficult until now I can only muster enough energy to stay on my feet for one or two days at a time. Sometimes my body is so exhausted but my brain goes too fast.

Filling with things nightmares are made of and yet many of them I have actually lived through.I am a Vietnam Vet.

You know the war some of us were spit on and emasculated for taking part in. I was Seventeen when I volunteered.

Thinking I was getting away from the violent home I grew up in. Or should I say didn't grow up in. Talk about the fry pan into the fire.I tried to get into the marines but my old man wouldn't sign for me unless I went into the Army.

Of course as soon as I got the signature I volunteered Airborne Ranger. Even though I was in way over my head somehow I made it. I often think I was never supposed to have lived.

I was just so damn scared most of the time only my training got me through. I remember many times thinking My legs are never going to work because they felt so weak and shaking but somehow they always did. Or being so scared thinking everyone in the jungle must be able to hear my heart beating in my throat, and the horror of being sprayed with someone Else's blood and internals.

I spent almost a year in Walter Reed Psychiatric facility trying to recover. I did go back to full active duty as an instructor until my discharge date.

I don't know why I am telling you all of this. I guess it is just easier since I don't really know you. I believe you are of a good heart and mind and that you are really trying to make a positive difference in this world.

I hope you continue to do so.

As far as punishing others it is very difficult for me to imagine my going away as a punishment. I tend to think of it more as a relief.

Then they don't have to bother thinking about me anymore. There are much more talented people out there to do some of things I have done and I am sure they can do them better than I ever could.

I almost always feel like I am just some big buffoon when I try to do good things. like people just laugh and say look there goes the Vietnam Vet trying to do good again. Maybe someday he'll get the hang of it.

Well anyway I have been enjoying our chats.

12-25-07 6:34 AM my response

Dear Vietnam Vet,

Doesn't is seem a little selfish of you wanting to punish all those who LOVE you. There are so many people who could be grateful to you for your good works!

Is your life so miserable that by killing yourself
and burning in HELL for all ETERNITY is a solution?

It is like going from the frying pan into the fire.

Why do you believe that taking your own life is a solution to life's difficulties? The world is filled with more than enough assholes.

Why would you want to penalize the rest of us by removing yourself...someone who is doing good and has so much to offer?

How do you think your daughter and your grand kids will feel if you kill yourself? If that isn't punishing your loved ones, I don't know what it.

Life is hard for everyone...just in different ways. You could say sometimes it is a living HELL, but life is all about attitude. When my life sucks and I think about killing myself, I take the pathway of the HERO and choose to have a good attitude
NO MATTER what is happening rather than the COWARDS way which is ending it all.

Merry Christmas,
Ralph

PS What can I do to help you make the decision for LIFE?

Jeff Dedrick: I think being unselfish, doing things for other people and not having some other motives like they are doing it just because they want to get something out of it be it money or whatever it may be. Unselfishness, that they are giving their time, their energies, their past knowledge, they are giving just for the sake of giving and not expecting something back.

DJ Dave Bernstein: Just simply by giving, by caring, by showing an interest. By finding solutions to problems, and by just being a part of people's lives.

It is not what he has, or even what he does which expresses the worth of a man, but what he is.
- Henri Frederic Amiel

Ted Nicholas: Well, I think you become a hero through mastering something, mastering the field that turns you on, the field in which you have passion. To be a hero is not easy, but it is well worth the effort. A lot of people are looking for the easy way, the lazy way, and the shortcut way instead of realizing that there are no shortcuts in life.

You have to pay the price; you have to have self-discipline. You have to do all these things.
When I say that, I hasten to add, that self-discipline, in my opinion, is a highly overrated skill or quality of a human being.

People think that I'm such a great self-disciplined person. I am in many ways, but I think the best thing about self-discipline that makes it not so tough, and as a matter of fact remarkably easy, is that good habits in life tend to become good actions which tend to become habits.

At first, it may be tough to study a certain amount of time each day or practice your skills a certain amount of time and you just keep practicing them until you get good at what you do. I, for example, have almost no natural skills in sports, but I have been able to accomplish a lot, to win a lot of tennis trophies and things like this more from just the effort and discipline that I put on myself. It becomes a habit that then enables you to have the kind of results that you can have.

In writing for example, I don't feel that I was endowed. I was always able to communicate fairly well, but I think that I've gotten better and better by practicing and by being an individual. Also in speaking, I don't consider speaking and writing worlds apart as many people seem to think that those are to be.

I think that communication is communication, and I'm a very much of a studier of communication. So I study communication, and I get better at it and it becomes a habit.

So now, Bethany will ask me sometimes, my significant other, she will ask me, "Why are you working so hard? You could have retired a long time ago. Don't you think about slowing down or taking it easy?" Well frankly, I'm so used to the pace and the kind of habits that I practice every day, part of me is afraid that I will lose some of those skills that I've worked so hard to develop unless I continue to do the things that I do.

Again, it's such a habit that it's almost impossible to break. Additionally, I'm an individual that has an addictive personality and I'm afraid to try things like drugs, because I'm afraid I might like them too much and become addicted to them. So rather than do that, I addict myself, or try to addict myself to things that are good for me, such as exercise, such as the kind of diet that I try to follow. I don't do anything 100%; I think it's dangerous because it makes you an unhappy person.

I think that ten percent of my diet is whatever I want to have. So, I think that if you develop the habits that are necessary for you to become a master, that's really the secret.

"Part 6: I Am Going To Sue You Because You Sent Me An Email About the Gary Halbert Memorial and Farewell Party Videos On Youtube.com" by Ralph Zuranski

I am confident you enjoyed this email series. The ultimate question was "Did I spam this person as defined by the Can Spam Act?

After checking with my heroes who are experts in internet law, their answer was a resounding NO!

1. The email was not commercial in nature and I was not selling anything.

The law requires that commercial email be identified as an advertisement and include the sender's valid physical postal address. Your message must contain clear and conspicuous notice that the message is an advertisement or solicitation and that the recipient can opt out of receiving more commercial email from you. It also must include your valid physical postal address.

2. I had all my business contact information in the email, including my phone, email, website, address and name.

There was no attempt at duplicity.

The law requires that your email give recipients an opt-out method. You must provide a return email address or another Internet-based response mechanism that allows a recipient to ask you not to send future email messages to that email address, and you must honor the requests. You may create a "menu" of choices to allow a recipient to opt out of certain types of messages, but you must include the option to end any commercial messages from the sender.

3. This person could easily have sent me a email asking to be removed them from my list or called me. I would have been happy to do so. They had every opportunity to op-out.

Any opt-out mechanism you offer must be able to process opt-out requests for at least 30 days after you send your commercial email. When you receive an opt-out request, the law gives you 10 business days to stop sending email to the requestor's email address. You cannot help another entity send email to that address, or have another entity send email on your behalf to that address. Finally, it's illegal for you to sell or transfer the email addresses of people who choose not to receive your email, even in the form of a mailing list, unless you transfer the addresses so another entity can comply with the law.

4. This person entered into a dialog with me. They threatened to harm me financially when all they had to do was ask to be removed from my list.

5. Also, I know this person and this person knows me. This person has benefited from my photographic skills. You would think they would show a little amount of appreciation rather than threatening to sue for trying to keep them informed about an important event in internet history even if they did not admire Gary Halbert.

6. There was no misleading or false header information.

The law bans false or misleading header information. Your email's "From," "To," and routing information – including the originating domain name and email address – must be accurate and identify the person who initiated the email. It prohibits deceptive subject lines. The subject line cannot mislead the recipient about the contents or subject matter of the message.

7. Ultimately, this person's advice to go read the Can Spam laws was a blessing in disguise. If you send out any email, it is critical you understand this law. The penalties are huge. With all the difficulties of email delivery and the Can Spam Law, is it any wonder internet marketers are migrating to RSS Feeds.

"Part 10: I Am Going To Commit Suicide in Two Weeks and There Is Nothing You Can Say Or Do To Stop Me From Killing Myself!!!" by Ralph Zuranski

12-24-07 6:29 AM friends response to my encouragement

Dear Ralph,

Thank you for wanting to help.

I have finished writing letters to those I wish to say goodbye. I worry the most about my daughter. She is the person who loved me and trusted me as if she could see my soul and from the first moment her tiny fingers wrapped around my pinkie she owned my heart.

I never experienced love so pure as I received from my Baby Girl. She is a mom now. She has four gorgeous children of her own. Her oldest is six.

Tonight I was Santa out in the yard. They heard the Bells and peaked out there windows. Santa was in their very own yard with a big bag of toys. When I saw them peaking out the window. I gestured with my hands folded by my head for them to get to sleep. They disappeared in a flash. Later my daughter told me the oldest one jumped into bed and squealed " MAMA HE can't see me awake".

They were so excited they were trying to keep their eyes closed, with big grins on their faces. After that I went to the apartment of some folks that I know don't have much. He has a security camera set up on his porch due to the neighborhood. I let myself be taped by the camera while I unloaded a bag full of toys and Little something for mom and dad.

Last year he suspected me of doing this but he didn't have a camera. I think they are going to have a surprise when they see the tape.

He is a hard working young guy. I know he wants there to be honor and dignity in the world. Unfortunately he thinks it is in that phony racist crap.

I hope I have been able to make a dent in his rigid thinking and show him a different way to view people.

Anyway I keep drooling on.

I do thank you again for wanting to help but I really think I have gone beyond that now. I still have a few weeks before it's time.

Oh I just remembered. If I may droll on a bit more.

Last night I could not sleep so I went for a drive. I drove most of the night. About 2:30 AM I found myself in a restaurant That I have not been in about 18 years.

I used to go there when I was a kid 40 years ago and you could get 5 cheeseburgers for a buck. I was a singer in a rock band and we used to practice in a guys basement who lived just across the alley from the restaurant.

So I got a cheeseburger and a cup of coffee under $3. I live about 70 miles from there now so I don't go there anymore. I was kind of eerie.

Merry Christmas

Alex Mandossian: I think they are heroes long before they are labeled as such. I think it starts by knowing you’re a hero to yourself.

Mother Theresa was a hero long before she got any acknowledgment. She helped a lot people, assisted them in transforming their lives from adversity to at least living and breathing.

That was her mission. So it wasn’t a matter of curing diseases. It was a matter of less disease ridden children and people in that part of the world.

So I think you’ve got to be a hero to yourself first, and then you can be acknowledged as a hero to others.

Dave Kekich: In my mind, by establishing a strong code of ethics and sticking to it, no matter what, and especially if no one is looking.

Cameron Johnson: Well, I think the only thing you need to do to be a hero is to help someone else. So if you can give back to anyone, then you are being a hero.

Jeff Wright: It begins with a decision. You make a decision that you are going to go in a different direction or in a positive direction or that you are going to pursue a vision. It all starts with a decision.

"Part 6: I Am Going To Sue You Because You Sent Me An Email About the Gary Halbert Memorial and Farewell Party Videos On Youtube.com" by Ralph Zuranski

The Holidays Were Not What I Expected, Especially When You Experience the Truth Of the Old Saying, "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished!" I am not a complainer or a whiner, but when you are trying to do for the world, it is a slap in the face when someone goes out of their way to make your life miserable during the holidays.

The purpose of this email series is to help people understand the "Can Spam Act" through an unfortunate experience I had around Christmas. Through a series of emails I exchanged with a internet guru, it is clear not everyone understands the restrictions and implications of sending unwanted email, even if someone gave you their business card. The goal is to clarify the true meaning and intent of the Can Spam Act that came into law January 1, 2004, not to indite the individual who responded in such an irritated and unfriendly manner.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is my initial email that I sent to all the people I have met at the internet seminars since 2002, individuals who gave me their business cards with their name, phone number, address, email address and website on them. Naturally I assumed it was okay to contact everyone who gave me a business card that might be interested in seeing the Gary Halbert memorial and farewell party videos or at least knowing they were available free on youtube.

The Halbert family, after almost 7 months, finally decided to let me put up the videos and photos I shot at the event in May 2007 so that interested parties might come to better understand Gary, one of the most flawed human beings ever on the face of the planet, but also one of the greatest copywriters.

Few realize that true genius travels a precarious line between brilliance and insanity. Often, the mood swings vacillate without warning and there is know way to really tell if the persons actions are those of a true genius or someone who it totally deranged.

I believe that at times we are all certifiably insane...depending on what is happing in our lives, especially when we are drinking heavily, tired, taking too many prescription drugs and/or indulging in mind and attitude altering illegal drugs. Gary Halbert's life is a lesson in extremes that we can all benefit from.

His life is similar to a Greek Tragedy. Gary often said, "A civilization advances on the backs of its neurotics." In Gary's case, how true! He explored the extreme realities that border on the "Twilight Zone." People either loved or hated him, and often both. One thing for sure is that he as a person and his copy were NEVER BORING!

Gary was never afraid to tell you what he perceived as the truth, whether you wanted to hear it or not. It did not matter whether you agreed or not. He called a spade a spade and infuriated many people by exposing their glaring weaknesses that were hidden with their social facade. Gary was a TRUTH TELLER but not very diplomatic.

Ralph,

did not read.

do not send ANY MORE EMAILS.

I am copying my lawyer on all of these.
Good bye.

Go read the spam laws
=====================================================================================

Here is the Can Spam Act
Here's a rundown of the law's main provisions:

* It bans false or misleading header information. Your email's "From," "To," and routing information – including the originating domain name and email address – must be accurate and identify the person who initiated the email.

* It prohibits deceptive subject lines. The subject line cannot mislead the recipient about the contents or subject matter of the message.

* It requires that your email give recipients an opt-out method.

* It requires that commercial email be identified as an advertisement and include the sender's valid physical postal address. Your message must contain clear and conspicuous notice that the message is an advertisement or solicitation and that the recipient can opt out of receiving more commercial email from you. It also must include your valid physical postal address.

Penalties

Each violation of the above provisions is subject to fines of up to $11,000. Deceptive commercial email also is subject to laws banning false or misleading advertising.

Additional fines are provided for commercial emailers who not only violate the rules described above, but also:

* "harvest" email addresses from Web sites or Web services that have published a notice prohibiting the transfer of email addresses for the purpose of sending email
* Generate email addresses using a "dictionary attack" – combining names, letters, or numbers into multiple permutations
* Use scripts or other automated ways to register for multiple email or user accounts to send commercial email
* Relay emails through a computer or network without permission – for example, by taking advantage of open relays or open proxies without authorization.

The law allows the DOJ to seek criminal penalties, including imprisonment, for commercial emailers who do – or conspire to:

* Use another computer without authorization and send commercial email from or through it
* Use a computer to relay or retransmit multiple commercial email messages to deceive or mislead recipients or an Internet access service about the origin of the message
* Falsify header information in multiple email messages and initiate the transmission of such messages
* Register for multiple email accounts or domain names using information that falsifies the identity of the actual registrant
* Falsely represent themselves as owners of multiple Internet Protocol addresses that are used to send commercial email messages.

Additional Rules

The FTC will issue additional rules under the CAN-SPAM Act involving the required labeling of sexually explicit commercial email and the criteria for determining "the primary purpose" of a commercial email. Look for the rule covering the labeling of sexually explicit material in April 2004; "the primary purpose" rulemaking will be complete by the end of 2004. The Act also instructs the FTC to report to Congress in summer 2004 on a National Do Not E-Mail Registry, and issue reports in the next two years on the labeling of all commercial email, the creation of a "bounty system" to promote enforcement of the law, and the effectiveness and enforcement of the CAN-SPAM Act.

See the FTC Web site at www.ftc.gov/spam for updates on implementation of the CAN-SPAM Act.

The FTC maintains a consumer complaint database of violations of the laws that the FTC enforces. Consumers can submit complaints online at www.ftc.gov and forward unwanted commercial email to the FTC at spam@uce.gov.

Dear Vietnam Vet
,
The greatest gift you could give me is stay alive to continue doing good.
The world needs as many "good does" as possible. Your work in hospice
makes you an angel. Please don't tarnish that fabulous legacy.

Stay strong and keep up the good works. Is there anything I can do to
help you make the right decision that will be good for you, your family
and the world?

"Part 8: I Am Going To Commit Suicide in Two Weeks and There Is Nothing You Can Say Or Do To Stop Me From Killing Myself!!!" by Ralph Zuranski

12-22-07 6: 14 PM my fourth response

Dear Vietnam Vet,

Those involved in hospice are angels. I took care of my mom and dad for three
years 24-7 after they had catastrophic illnesses. My mom died in April and my
dad is still on hospice. It is difficult to continue caring for him...a huge sacrifice.

Your heart is in the right place and you have done much good for others. You
still have the opportunity to do more good while you are still alive. I am
so sorry to hear about your back problems, but you paid into the system and
deserve the money. You should be proud about receiving what is rightfully
yours.

As for you wife and son, they chose their own path. You are not responsible for
how they turned out. It is a miracle you took care of them for so many years.
I am dealing with the same thing in my own marriage where the biblical saying
applies, "Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate. Bless those who curse
you. Pray for those who despitefully use and abuse you for this is the only way
to turn evil to good...by returning good for evil."

Since your life is filled with forgiveness for others, just think how many of your
sins God has forgiven. Unfortunately, I believe he does not forgive you for
taking your own life. In that moment you become your own god and will
suffer the punishment you know you deserve for usurping God's power of
life and death.

Eternity is a long time. Wouldn't your rather spend it in heaven rather than
HELL?

Your are in my prayers.

Take care,
Ralph

PS Thanks for the books. I look forward to reading them.
YOU ARE A SAINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ruben Gonzalez: The attitude that you have, overcoming your fears with courage and helping others. If you have a calling that, in your gut and heart that is telling you to go and do something and you do it, that is a hero.

If you allow your fear to hold you back then that is devastating because you can never grow into a better person if you don’t challenge yourself.

John Assaraf: You don’t become a hero by choosing to become a hero. You become a hero by becoming an example, by being an example for what’s possible, for being an example for one person. Your child, your friend your neighbor, somebody looks up and says “You know what? I am going to move my life towards that type of goodness, doing that type of goodness, being that type of goodness and kindness. I think that is how someone becomes a hero.

Here is the test to find whether your mission on earth is finished: If you're alive, it isn't.
- Richard Bach

David Frey: I believe people are put here for a purpose. God put us here to serve other people.
There are only two things you take with you when you go, your relationships and the service you did for other people.

So if they want to become heroes they need to waste and wear out their lives in the service for others. I think it is important to pick out people and emulate them, as long as you’re picking out the right people to emulate.
Heroes don’t even have to make a lot of money, a lot of mine don’t but I would give up my left arm to be one of them. I would give up all the money I had to become one of those men.

Mike Filsaime: A hero to me is a mentor, a person that has unconditional love for the people that they are working with. I don’t see heroes necessarily in terms of Babe Ruth. Those are icons.

I don’t want to tell people to change the way that we can talk in this country. You can have sports heroes but the true heroes need to be the fathers and uncles and the teachers.

Those are the heroes of this world and people like you with what you are doing with young kids. I think a hero, has to do with some type of adult figure working with a young child.

Paulie Sabol: My definition of heroism is the person who takes the hero’s journey. This is the journey that will include going to Chapel Perilous. You are going to face some of the darkest parts of yourself and the darkest parts of the rest of the world. You are going to encounter naysayers.

You are going to encounter jealous people. They are going to try and sabotage. Sometimes the messages you’ve internalized are going to come in and sabotage. If you want my sense of the ideal experience of heroism, I would encourage you to read the book Percival.

You will understand this message that gets me so excited, this idea that you were born to journey, you were born to discover something magical about yourself. That is what heroism is, taking the journey often means giving up some stuff along the way. It also means finding mentors, travel companions, your pals, and even an occasional betrayal.

However, in all of these mystic stories of the hero’s journey, the result in the end throughout history has really been godhood, being raised up to the highest places and into the mysteries.

I’m not meaning to suggest that anyone become God or doesn’t, that’s not what I’m talking about but what I can say is this – the best books in the world are filled with examples of heroes and have-nots, examples and warnings.
My wish for you, right now, is to be listed amongst the examples and the heroes.

Donna Fox: I think a hero is someone who does something that is amazing. Whether that be the tiniest little thing, if it is amazing to me then they are my hero. I try to see the hero in everyone, like see the Buda in everyone. It’s very similar.

Everybody has something about them that sparkles, something about them that is incredible, and it’s just finding that gem, that little diamond inside everyone. Everybody is a hero.

So that’s my definition of heroism: it’s everyone.

Tom Beal: Whew, heroism. I think my definition of heroism is someone who is doing the best they can and has a goal and is committed to being better tomorrow than they are today. I feel like that’s a hero.

Kind of like the definition of a goal like Earl Nightingale said, “The pursuit of a worthy goal or ideal”. So anyone who’s in high school and going to class and doing their homework is a success because they are pursuing that worthy ideal or goal.

As long as anybody is committed to being better tomorrow than they are today, in my mind that’s a hero.
