"Tribute To and Eulogy For Health Hero Dr. David Ganong Who Passed Away Unexpectedly" by Ralph Zuranski

This is a testimonial about the life of Doctor David Ganong, who recently passed away a week ago from a heart attack.

David Ganong was a dear friend of mine. He was one of the finest people I have had the privilege of knowing. He was a true giant of a man, a real hero and inspiration to me.

David was one of the many brave individuals, along with Michael Borkin, NMD, Donald Carrow, MD, Garry Gordon, MD, Alfred Johnson, DO, Linda Martin, DO, Robert Martin, MD, Ralph Miranda, MD, Robert Rowen, MD, Michael Schachter, MD, Murray Susser, MD, John Parks Trowbridge, MD, J. Robert Winslow, DO, Jonathan Wright, MD, Boyd Bennett, Jacob Swilling, PhD, Secretary Walter J. Hickel, Senator Jerry Ward, Dr. Morton Walker and many others, who battled against the ignorance and close-mind ness of government officials, conventional medical doctors and pharmaceutical companies so that people in the United States would have freedom to choose from all the different conventional and natural therapies available

Unfortunately, back in those days, conventional medicine doctors, dentists and pharmaceutical companies, were dead set against people having the freedom to choose alternatives to dangerous drugs with harmful side-effects and major surgery. The freedom to choose any form of therapy, natural healing or conventional methods, was a long time coming.

In retrospect, after almost 14 years have passed, I now realize most doctors, dentists and individuals in pharmaceutical companies are fine, caring individuals who were ignorant about natural healing methods. They were threatened by what they thought was pure quackery and outrageous schemes to rip-off their patients.

Now, I am much wiser. After taking care of my dad and mom, who had catastrophic illnesses two years ago, within three months of each other, I realize the value of conventional medicine and its rightful place in the hierarchy of therapies that keep people alive. The doctors, nurses and physical therapists I have had the opportunity to work with, to help my mom and dad, have been outstanding, caring individuals who do not get the credit they deserve.

But, 16 years ago, David and I and the other alternative medicine pioneers were filled with zeal to educate people about alternative medicine therapies. Dr. Ganong and many of the other pioneers put their lives and financial futures on the line to help their patients receive the therapies they found most effective and least harmful.

David was a valuable ally in the war against closed minded individuals who were preventing people from having the freedom to choose. He, as well as many of the other pioneers, were attacked by ignorant, close-minded individuals in the government, media and their own medical societies.

Many of them lost their practices, homes and ability to make a living. Some were even jailed and persecuted by their medical peers and the FDA and FTC…all because they were stalwart individuals, like the founding fathers of this country, who refused to give into ignorance, close-mindedness and oppression. They decided to do the right thing…to stand up for freedom for all...no matter the horrific consequences in their own lives they knew were inevitable.

The huge battle between conventional medicine and alternative medicine continues even today. But, many of those in conventional medicine now realize the value of natural methods of healing, and the power of the mind and spirit and a healthy lifestyle.

David Ganong was an incredibly skilled dentist, a pioneer in alternative medicine, who early on realized that Mercury amalgams had a negative impact on the body. The studies in Europe were conclusive and he made the decision to help rather than harm his patients. When he told me about the harmful effects of mercury amalgam fillings, I was amazed. I had suffered from weird health problems and increased mental instability from my youth.

During my early life my teeth rotted in my mouth because of too much sugar. Every six months I had to go to the dentist to get three to four more painful fillings. When David shared with me the importance of taking care of my teeth I realized I should have taken my dentist's advice to brush and floss often and not eat candy.

As a consequence of my poor dental hygiene and diet, even today at the age of 57, I am still having problems with my teeth and gums. The cost of dental care over my lifetime has been astronomical. And even though recent studies say there is no harm from mercury amalgam fillings, I saw a radical improvement in my health that had been disintegrating for many years.

David helped me get the mercury fillings out. I experienced a dramatic improvement in my health. I was in a desperate situation when I met David because most of the mercury fillings in my mouth had corroded and expanded so much that many of my amalgam filled teeth fractured while I was chewing. I was so grateful to David for his kindness and charity in helping me get rid of the mercury in my mouth while I was still experiencing unexplained sicknesses and psychosis. (Removing the mercury fillings is not a cure all but has a place in your overall strategy to achieve optimal health.)

David was also one of the pioneers in using nutrition and energetic medicine to help his patients achieve a higher level of health. David knew that the health of your teeth was a direct indicator of the health of your body. It only took a decrease in health by 25% to cause decay in the teeth.

Dr. Ganong really had an amazing desire to help people and tell them the truth about the dangers of mercury amalgam fillings, the importance of nutrition and the value of consistent cleaning and flossing of your teeth.
Over the years David became a very good friend. In fact his son David, was my first hero-in- training back in 1992. When I started the "In Search Of Heroes Program," David sent his son to spend two weeks with me to learn how to be a hero.

When little David came out I was astounded on how hard it was to be a good example to young people. I had no idea how hard it was to be a temporary parent to a young person 24 hours a day seven days a week.

While David was with me in Coronado, he went to work with me to the "Coronado Eagle Newspaper" to increase his journalistic skills and prepare for going in search of heroes at the "San Diego Comic Convention" and "Disneyland," "Magic Mountain" and "Universal Studios." David also helped one of the local businesspeople, Kelly with her computer.

When Dave and I went to the "San Diego Comic Convention" he helped out in many ways. He assisted the owners of “Defiant Comics,” the company that created the “Good Guys Comic Book" series. This comic series was based on the lives and characters of eight real-life kids that wrote stories about why they are heroes and should be the models for the characters in the comic book.

In fact, David wanted to be one of the characters in the comics along with Laura Neale, the daughter of dear friends, Ted and Cindy Neale. David and Laura both submitted their entries.

Out of thousands of entries, Laura was one of the winners and the comic book artists created her character named “Flex.” Even though David did not win, at the "San Diego Comic Convention" he helped out every way he could.

David even had the opportunity to do an interview with Jim Shooter, an early writer for the “Superman Comic Book Series” and former editor-in-chief of “Marvel Comics.” Jim was also the creator of “Defiant Comics,” the force behind the manifestation of the “Good Guys Comic Book Series.” David was thrilled. David even had the opportunity to experience with me the most embarrassing moment of my life. There was a costume contest at the "San Diego Comic Convention" every year from the very beginning. For most of the years, I showed up just as my right-brain-super-hero-for-health, Captain Biorhythm. Of course, I never won anything because in the late 1970s and 1980s brain integration and natural health was still considered outside the main stream.

In preparation for the contest, I told David I was going to expose the myth of everyone having only one personality. I decided to teach people about their right and left brain personalities by dressing in my left brain "Ralph Zuranski" business suit and having my right brain "Captain Biorhythm" costume underneath and then my integrated brain "Bioman" under that.

I told David that when it was my turn on stage, I would appear as Ralph, then take off that costume, reveal the "Captain Biorhythm" costume underneath and then strip down to the "Bioman" costume. My goal was to teach the audience about the benefits of using both their right and left brains together to become the ultimate human beings called" Biomen" and "Biowomen." I would then demonstrate how I could play tennis with two tennis rackets simultaneously.

Both David and I were in for a rude awakening. As I started to take off my "Ralph Zuranski" costume, the people in charge of the lighting thought that I was pervert. They believed I was going to expose a different part of my anatomy to shock the people in the audience.

They turned off the lights. I stood there in total darkness. Initially there was total silence. People did not know what to expect. Finally individuals started yelling out loud:
“Turn on the lights. Let him finish.”
“Get off the stage, you child molester.”

Many other unkind things were said. One kind person used his flashlight to beam a light on me so I could expose the three aspects of the human mind. As I finished with my “Bioman” costume, the ultimate integration of the right and left brain hemispheres, where people become totally realized human beings, capable of anything, I proudly walked off the stage. As I walked off the stage, the “Boos” of the audience punctuated the silence.

Even though I was reviled for doing something I believed was right and important, the verbal abuse and massive rejection was extremely painful. When I reached the back stage David was so concerned. He said, “How could you survive such an embarrassing situation?”

I told him, “David, if you really believe in the value and potential benefits of what you are doing and the message you are trying to get out to the world, no amount of embarrassment or harassment can stop you. Yes, I was totally embarrassed, but I don’t mind looking like a fool, if I am doing what I think is the right thing and trying to help others. Most of the people in the audience are just not ready for my message. Don’t ever be afraid to do the right thing...no matter the consequences. Ultimately, you will be victorious if you only persevere.”

As I look back on this most embarrassing of moments, I think of David’s dad who always did what was right. He single-handedly fought against the American Dental Association, to get them to realize that the Mercury amalgam fillings are not the best option for their patients.

The amount of difficulties his stand for what he thought was right created many problems for him and his family but, David fought for what he believed. He made a stand when few others would...a rare person the world needs more of now, especially in these days of wars, trials, tribulations, high gas prices, dead end jobs, etc.

Captain Biorhythms motto was, "Rise up heroes and heroines, the world needs you now." David was a true hero. His passing saddens my heart. But, I realize he is in heaven and experiencing incredible joy. I know he loved and served God and did everything he could do to help humanity with every ounce of his being.

David, we the family, friends and people left behind, that you served and you loved, will miss you very much. My heart goes out to David’s entire family. I am personally very grateful for the time we had together. You inspired and encouraged me to continue on with my heroes program.

Today I honor Doctor David Ganong, the father, friend and alternative medicine pioneer, who was such an inspiration and hero in my life. We stood shoulder to shoulder, trying to educate the world about the harmful effects of electromagnetic field radiation and the benefits of alternative medicine dentistry.

I was grateful to have someone stand beside me. You were a giant among men and your courage to take on the US government and huge medical and pharmaceutical organizations at your own expense was inspirational. You and your family suffered for you doing the right thing, to help people to understand the value of alternative medicine and the importance of the freedom of choice.

I salute you and raise a cheer for you. I was and am encouraged by your courageous example. You were a dear friend and someone who made a positive difference in the lives of many people while you were here on earth.
I just wish there were more men like you, David Ganong, my dear friend, who dedicated his life to doing the right thing and helping others for truly, by your presence here on earth you made the world a better place.

I can hardly wait to see you again in eternity and hug you as a dear brother for I know without a doubt your son David will make you proud. He is your legacy and the fulfillment of a parent’s job well done.

An important aspect to making your educational message enticing is to give it a great title. You’ll notice in the second title I just mentioned I used a number (six) and the word “secrets.” People like numbered lists and knowing things other people don’t know (i.e. secrets). Put those two together and you have an almost irresistible title. Give your educational messages exciting titles and they will attract qualified prospects.

How To Deliver Your Educational Marketing Message

Now that you have developed and packaged your education message, you should develop strategies and processes to give it away. To do this you must first identify all the “customer touch points” in your business and offer your educational message at each one of those touch points. Common customer touch points are your business phone, website, advertising, publicity, networking conversations, home shows, etc.

For instance, instead of ending your business phone conversations like this,

“Well Mrs. Jones, thanks so much for calling and I hope you come by and visit us.” End your phone conversation with an offer like this, “Well Mrs. Jones, thanks so much for calling. By the way, we’ve just developed a great special report that talks about the top 10 common mistakes that people make when buying a widget. If you’ll give me your address I’ll send it to you free of charge. Would that be okay?”

You’ve just accomplished three very important things with this telephone strategy, (1) you’ve generated goodwill by offering a valuable free gift, (2) you got your prospect’s contact information so that you can continue to market to her, and (3) you now have a reason for a follow up phone call after she receives and has read the special report.

Resist the Urge to Give a Sales Pitch

It’s easy to set your small business apart using Education-Based Marketing because most of your competitors are using selling-based marketing. The beauty of Education-Based Marketing is that you give prospective customers what they want, information and advice — and remove what they don't want, a sales pitch.


By offering helpful advice, you establish yourself as an authority because prospects see you as a reliable source of information. Be careful not to give in to the urge to include a sales pitch with your educational message. This will only erode the trust you have established and make you the same as your competitors in the eyes of your prospect.

Instead, after you have provided some helpful information you should warmly invite your prospects to call you, visit your website, come to your store, or take advantage of your free offer to do an onsite visit.

Conclusion

Education-Based Marketing captures prospects earlier in the decision process and establishes a relationship of trust, resulting in dramatically higher sales and closing ratios. Well, it's not actually a franchise they're advertising, but...franchising IS a very effective way to expand your business.

1. First

You do need a decent business concept. But it doesn't have to be a novel concept. Heck, look at how many hamburger joints are franchised.

2. Second

You should have a good operational system. This means that many of your operations are somewhat systematized.

3. Third

Your business needs to be somewhat simple. By that I mean, you should be able to teach it to someone else in a relatively short amount of time.


4. Fourth

Your business needs to make money. It's no use franchising a business that isn't profitable. If your franchisee can make around a 15% return on their money then you're okay.


5. Fifth

You have to be able to manage a corporation. You no longer will be managing a small business so you'll have to put your franchisor hat on and sharpen your management skills.


6. Sixth

Does your business have a uniqueness to it. This flies in the face of what I told you in the first element, but it does help.


7. Seventh

Your business needs to be able to thrive in any locale. It should not have a regional flavor to it to the point that it wouldn't work in another part of the country.


8. Eighth

The industry your business is in preferably should not be dominated by huge conglomerates. Industries with lots of Mom and Pop shops is a good sign.


9. Ninth

Can the inventory that your business uses be financed. You'll need to create financial leverage so it's best to have assets that can be financed.


10. Tenth

Are you willing to take advice and invest in the proper help you'll need to franchise your business. You might be a great window company but you probably don't know much about franchising so you'll need to invest in professional help.

How do you make more money on eBay with your current and/or future listings? That's the question that is demanding an answer.

Making money on eBay and selling products through auctions is much like owning your own brick and mortar store. For example, when people come to a store, the most important aspect to selling anything is in the way it's presented.

Big companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars to have people build presentable displays of products so they sell. It's call merchandising.

That's the answer to making more money on eBay. Merchandising.

Or, in eBay auction terms, writing your product listing. Here's five high profit ways you can write better listings.

1. HTML it!

Take some time to learn some basic HTML, or the language the web uses to display websites.

Using HTML you can easily create a very nice looking "display" of your product and build a brand for yourself. By keeping the same look in all your listings people will feel comfortable with your position as a seller and theirs as the buyer.

HTML allows you the opportunity to make your listing stand out and be more professional. Use the HTML editor on the product listing page to make it much easier, even if you don't know a lot HTML.

2. Don't Scream At People.

One of the biggest mistakes people with their eBay listing is the use of all capital letters in the title. IT'S VERY ANNOYING!

Using capital letters is a means of expressing surprise, anger, sadness, discouragement, and other sorts of unhappy emotions. Not a great way to instill an emotional response to buy.

Now, notice I didn't say don't use any caps in your title. Just not all caps. A title is just that... a title. Think of a book title or movie title. Capitalize the first letter of each word.

3. Your eBay listing must be clear.

When presenting a listing for your product you must make it absolutely clear what you are selling. Concise descriptions as well as crystal clear pictures will keep your prospective customer interested in the product. If they are unsure about anything, at any time... you will probably lose them to your competitor.

4. True Powersellers go a step further.

It's not enough to make the product listing very clear, but also your terms and conditions. This means your shipping policy and costs, return policy, any warranties that you, or the company, offer, and any guarantees associated with the product.

This goes the extra mile into creating a comfortable atmosphere where the person reading your listing will be more inclined to buy from you.

5. Follow a listing schedule.

Before you ever place the listing ask yourself a question, "Is this the best time to sell it?" Even the best, most thought out listing, will fail if the time isn't right.

Create a listing schedule that clearly lists the starting and ending dates of your auction. This will ensure that, if you're selling holiday products or seasonal products, the buyer will receive them on time.

Your listing is a part of your business. This is where you begin to build a long lasting relationship, one of comfort and recognition, that continues for long lasting income.

"Follow-Up Marketing: How to Win More Sales with Less Effort" by David Frey

A study done by the Association of Sales Executives revealed that 81% of all sales happens on or after the fifth contact. If you’re a small business owner and you’re only doing one or two follow-ups imagine all the business you’re losing. Not following up with your prospects and customers is the same as filling up your bathtub without first putting the stopper in the drain!

But don’t be disheartened if you’re among the 90% of business owners I talk to that don’t do any follow up. The good news is you have ample room for profitable improvement. Consistent follow-up creates a predictable and profitable stream of prospects and customers that buy. Small businesses that capture leads and follow-up with them enjoy higher conversion rates and a higher percentage of referrals than those that don’t.

After asking many small business owners the reason they don’t follow up I often hear responses such as, "I don’t have the sales staff to chase down all our leads", or "We’re usually too busy to do a lot of follow up." These responses automatically set off red flags that tell me that they lack a systematic process for following up. The problem is not that they don’t have the capacity to follow up with prospects, it’s that they don’t have the systems in place to do it.

What Does a Good Follow Up System Look Like?

A good follow up marketing system should have three attributes.

It should be systematic, meaning that the follow up process is done the same way every time.

It should generate consistent, predictable results.

It should require minimal physical interaction to make it run, meaning it should be able to run on autopilot.

Sounds like a dream come true for most small business owners doesn’t it? Not only can it be done, it’s being done every day. The secret to "follow-up marketing" is to make it automatic so that you don’t have to lift a finger but the job still gets done. With today’s technology it’s simpler than ever. Automating your follow-up processes gives you more time to work "on" your business rather than "in" your business.

Three Types of Follow Ups

There are three types of people you should be following up with, suspects (people in your target marketplace), prospects (people who have responded to your marketing but have not purchased, and customers (people who have purchased something from you.) Each follow up message and offer will be different for each type of person. With suspects, you’ll want to entice them to call you or visit your store / office. With prospects, you need to persuade them to make their first purchase. And with customers, you want to convince them to come back and do more business with you and give your referrals.

Obviously the hardest type of person to follow up with is a suspect because they haven’t shown any interest yet in a pool or hot tub and you usually don’t have their contact information. But that’s not true with prospects and customers. You not only know who they are, but you should already have their contact information. And if you follow up with your customers with consistency you’ll find that they will help you turn your suspects into prospects and prospects into customers for you through referrals.

Your Follow Up Marketing Tools

Your principal follow up marketing tools are the telephone, direct mail, and email. Many pool and hot tub business owners make the mistake of jumping right on the telephone to follow up; however, most prospects don’t want a pushy sales message right away and most prospects have been trained to consider anyone who calls up to be a pushy salesperson. Instead, you should try to develop a relationship of trust with your prospect by quickly sending informational items such as special reports, audio CDs, or videos before you make a phone call.

Remember to always include a "next-step-offer" to accompany your educational materials. If the next step is to visit the store, then entice them with an appropriate offer or if the next step is to call you, entice your prospect to call you immediately. People move through the buying process in baby steps, especially when considering buying high-ticket items such as hot tubs or pools. Your offer should always help them take the next step.

Your Follow Up Sequence

The power of your follow up will lie in your follow up sequence. Your follow up sequence is a series of communications with your prospect that are "linked" together, with each communication building on the previous message. For instance, you might start your second letter by saying, "10 days ago I sent you a letter..." You might also consider stamping the message, "2nd Notice" on the envelope to let people know this is the second time you’ve contacted them. Referencing the previous communication links what you’re saying with what you’ve already said and reminds your prospect that you care enough to continue the conversation.

Usually, when doing direct mail you should include three to five mailings spaced out about seven days apart. When using a sequential autoresponder you can have as many follow ups as you want because using email is basically free (that’s why you always want to get a prospects email address). One of my clients has over 20 follow-ups in his autoresponder sequence that go out over a six month period.

Each sequence should follow a logical argument and you might consider bolstering the offer with each communication using a deadline as a motivator to act now. As an example, in the third communication you could say, "I’m surprised you haven’t taken me up on my generous offer. What’s holding you back?" Or consider saying, "I’ve written you three times and you still haven’t taken me up on my offer so I’m going to pull out all the stops and make you an offer you simply can’t refuse." Notice how the language always links the previous communication and increases the boldness of the offer. It’s the same type of conversation you might have in a regular sales conversation.

How to Put Your Follow Up Marketing System on Autopilot

What I’m about to reveal to you is the key to developing a powerful follow up marketing system because it overcomes the number one reason most businesses don’t follow up. You must automate your follow up system as much as possible so that there are few, if any, physical interactions from your employees with the system. It’s the required physical interactions (i.e. printing letters, sending emails, inputting leads etc.) where 99% of all the breakdowns happen in well-intentioned follow up marketing systems.

To automate your follow-ups you should consider using robotic marketing systems and outsourcing any manual interactions to a dedicated service. For instance, to capture your leads you should consider using a toll-free automated recorded message system that captures your prospects contact information and automatically transcribes it and sends your leads to you in a spreadsheet every morning via email.

If you’re using a direct mail follow up system (and you should be), find a fulfillment house to do the mailings for you. To find a fulfillment house, simply go to your local printer and ask them to refer you to a fulfillment house in the area.

Now step back for a moment and see the power of what I’ve just revealed to you. Imagine running an ad, having your prospect call up and give their contact information via your recorded message system. Then having your leads automatically sent to your fulfillment house via email, after which your prospect receives a five-sequence direct mail package containing your most persuasive marketing message -- without you lifting one finger!

You can set up the exact same type of "hands-free" follow up marketing system using an email autoresponder system. Your prospect will not only be receiving your direct mail messages, but you can insert your email messages in between your mailings.

What About Calling to Follow Up?

You’ll notice that I didn’t say anything about calling your prospect. That’s because you want your prospect to have already received your educational marketing messages and have most of their questions answered before they call you. An educated prospect is your best prospect.

They already know why you’re different, what your value proposition is, and how you’re uniquely qualified to meet their needs. In essence, they’ve pre-qualified themselves before you ever have to spend time physically speaking to them. This drastically reduces the sales cycle and increases your conversion rate because you have positioned your small business to be their only logical choice.

Follow-up marketing will boost your closing rate and dramatically increase your customer satisfaction. Following up with systematic processes allows you to leverage your salespeople’s time and enhance their productivity, which will result in more sales with less effort and isn’t that what you want? Ralph Zuranski: What do you think about the In Search of Heroes program and its impact on the youth, parents and business people? You were one of the first people to offer to help with logos and web creation and I really appreciate your help on that.

What do you think about the program in general?

Frank Deardurff: I think it is a great program and I’m surprised how many people have put forth an effort to try to help you out.

Ralph Zuranski: Yea, that’s pretty amazing, isn’t it?

Frank Deardurff: People that you know are very, very busy and that have taken the time to step aside and take a few minutes to help you out or give of their abilities.

Of course all the time and effort that you are putting into it, the countless hours and the interviews and the preparations and the mind-mapping and everything that you have got into it I think is overwhelming.

Ralph Zuranski: It’s really a lot of work. That is for sure. But making the world a better place is something that God has put on my heart to do and no matter what I am going to do it.

What do you think are the things parents can do that will help their children realize that they too can be heroes and make a positive impact on the lives on others?

Frank Deardurff: Communicate. I think if they communicate that sometimes the goodness that they do is the only goodness that some people see and that you need to live your life like somebody is watching you.

Not regardless of just flat out fly by the seat of your pants and don’t care what happens. What more parents need to communicate with their kids on a daily basis just to find out what they are going through.

Schools are different than what they were when we were growing up and sometimes kids are afraid or embarrassed to even speak about that with their parents. But I think as parents we need to communicate and ask questions, not just be told.

Ralph Zuranski: Yes, I agree. Well, Frank, I know how busy you are and I really appreciate you taking your time to do this interview. Is there any parting thought you want to share with the young people?

Frank Deardurff: I just wanted to thank you for allowing me to be a part of this and I hope that any of the children that listen to this, no matter the age, from two to 20 or whatever, or even the adults that listen, there are still kids in each of us, I hope that they take the time to ask when they need help.

Ralph Zuranski: I really appreciate your sound advice and just look at you as a person that produces excellence in a quiet and unassuming way. To me you are sort of the epitome of what heroism is all about.
