Tears streamed down my face as I thought of my Mom lying on her death bed while Wally Amos told the tale of the loving mother who sang the song "I will love you forever. I will like you for always. As long as I am living my baby you will be." until she could sing it no more and her son lifted her frail body and sang the song with tears in his eyes.
Mark Victor Hansen's Mega Marketing Magic Internet Marketing Seminar was a turning point in my life. While taking photos of all the smiling faces, my heart was breaking as my desperately ill mother was approaching her final moments on this earth in San Diego.
So many my of internet heroes and friends have shared my difficult journey for the last 24 months of taking care of my Mom and Dad 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their loving and empathetic support has helped me weather the storms of sadness, grief, self-doubt and frustration.

My time is not my own because of my parent-care situation.

The friends I have discovered at many different internet conferences over the last three years have encouraged me and provided emotional support over the last 24 months. My parents suffered catastrophic illnesses within three months of each other in 2004. Mom suffered congestive heart failure and pneumonia in March.
My dad had a paralyzing stroke three months later, on the final day of the Ted Nicholas Copywriting Seminar in Texas where I was taking the photos and running the speakers Power Point presentations. I did not learn about his stroke until 12 hours after the catastrophic event because my cell phone was turned off. What a shock to learn a beloved parent was in critical condition, close to death and no one could get hold of me. Now I always keep my phone on vibrate.
Out of three children I was the only one willing to put my life on hold for the sake of my parents. My wife Janet and I dropped everything we were doing, put all our furniture in storage and moved back to San Diego to take care of them during their final days. Sometimes, when I think back on my promise so many years ago, to treat them with tender loving care when they were old and sick, I wonder "What was I thinking?"
It has been the most difficult, but rewarding part of my life. My heart goes out to all those who are in the same boat...taking care of elderly parents or sick family members or friends. All of them are not just heroes but saints.
The epiphany I experienced during Mark's event was directly related to all the people who were kind enough to let me take a photo of them smiling. The more photos I took, the better I felt...the less I grieved for my Mom and Dad.
While I created the slide show videos, suddenly I realized I could not stop smiling as I enjoyed the music slide shows. One of the greatest realizations of my life spontaneously occurred...the slide shows of smiling faces were SMILE THERAPY!
Now I realized why I love taking photos of the smiling faces of attendees at internet seminars and other special events. With every photo of a person giving me the benefit of their radiant smile, my energy and feelings of well-being increases.
I often wondered why I could take hundreds of photos of each day and feel more energized at the end of the day than the beginning. Now I know the truth and so do you.
The greatest benefit of attending internet conferences is the dear friends you make that become an integral part of your extended family circle. Each seminar is a joyful family reunion!
